Our YEP Project introduction

We live on Stewart Island, a very special place to live. The Island has only one school, named Halfmoon Bay School. The oldest student is Jahdan. He is ten. We have got 19 fit and active students in total. Everyone cares about the environment because it is our natural beauty. Jack's dad works for DOC (Department of Conservation). He monitors the Bravo Island Yellow Eyed Penguins. We are lucky that nearly everyone at Halfmoon Bay School has seen a Yellow Eyed Penguin.

  1. Hi Kids

I loved your Yellow Eyed penguins page, especially Sophies reading activity. I am going to share your Blogspot with my class tomorrow on my Interactive whiteboard.
I teach at Lawrence Area School in Otago. A wee hint your teacher used to teach there with me.

  2. Hello Stewart Islanders,

I was very interested to hear about your yellow eyed penguins.

I live in Elwood, a suburb of Melbourne, Australia. Melbourne is a big city of 4 million people, as many as live in all of New Zealand, i think, and there is not much natural environment around here but the suprising thing is that we do have penguins. Just down the road from where I live is a breakwater with a breeding colony of fairy penguins, quite amazing among the city bustle.

  3. Hi kids,

The blog is great! I have learned some more about penguins that I didn’t know.

I really enjoyed reading about the hard work Kyla's mum had to do when she was a penguin keeper Kelly Tarlton's. 2 and ½ hours a day of cleaning the penguin enclosure in freezing conditions is definitely hard work!

    Sophie’s picture is neat too.

Sandy from the Yellow-Eyed Penguin Trust’s chick photos are super.

I am really looking forward to seeing the blog updates and the movie.

    Keep up the great work,
    Monika
